What is Alcoholics Anonymous

I AM RESPOSIBLE... When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there.

A DECLARATION OF UNITY. This we owe to AA's future: To place our common welfare first; to keep our fellowship united. For on AA unity depends our lives and the lives of those to come.

How to contact Alcoholics Anonymous

HOW TO CONACT AREA 57

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experence, strength and hope wit each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution neither endoresor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help others to achieve sobriety.

Group Change Form

ACCESSIBILITIES: Accessiblity challanges apply to alcoholics who have difficulties participating in Alcoholics anonymous, whether these are phisical, mental, cultural, or other factors that vary among people. Some of these people may experience barriers to accessing the A.A. message, including literature, meetings, Twelfth step work, and the service structure. The accessibility issues that many alcoholics face, we primarily refer to those who are blind and or deaf, those that are housebound or chronically ill, and those who are are living with brain injury or stroke. Barriers to the message of A.A. are not always readly evident.

ARCHIVES: Archives work is more that mere custodial activity. it is the means by which we collect, preserve, and share the rich and meaningful heritage of our fellowship. It is by the collection and sharing of these historical elements that our collective gratitude for A.A. deepens. A.A. members have a responsibily to gather and care for the Fellowships historical documents and memorabilia. Correspondance, minutes, reports, photographs, newspaper and magazine articals from the past and present should be collected and preserved and made available for the guidance and reserch of A.A. members and others for now and generations to come.

BRIDGE THE GAP: Bridging the gap can provide temporary contact for alcoholic in treatment centers, medical facilities, crisis centers or other facilities. The intent of bridging the Gap is to provide the recently released or discharged alcoholics with temporary help for a limited time. this is basic twelfth step work. in order to bridge the gap A.A. members have volunteered to be temporary contacts and introduce newcomers to Alcoholics Anonymous

COOPERATION WTIH THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY: This committee provides information about A.A. to those who have contact with alcoholics through their profession. This group includes health care, E.A.P, HR professionals, educators, members of the clergy, lawyers, social workers, military professionals, goverment officials and those working in the field of alcoholism. Information is provided about where we are, what we are, what we can do and what we cannot do. when there is a good working relationship between the A.A. members and the paid alcoholism workers, the sick alcoholic is the winner.

CORRECTIONS: The purpose of the corrctions committee is to coordinate the work of individual A.A. members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to alcoholics behind the walls, and to set up means of smoothing the way from the facility to the larger A.A. community through prerelease contacts. A.A. members wishing to carry our message behind the walls of correction facilities should understand that we always do so within the regulations of such facility.

GRAPRVINE: A.A. A.A. is the international journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. written, edited, illustrated and read by alcoholics and others interested in the A.A. program of recovery from alcoholism. The Grapevine is a lifline linking one alcoholic to another. The grapevine not only carries the words "A.A.'s Meeting in print" on the cover but it's format resembles an A.A. meeting as well, beginning with the Preamble and concluding with the Serenity Prayer. It has the makings of a good meeting: dicussion topics, humor, announcements, and above all the storiesof exprience , strength and hope of alcoholics practicing the principles of A.A.

PUBLIC INFORMATION: The purpose of P.I. work is to provide accurate A.A. information to the piblic when requsted. P.I. committees visit schools, businesses, and community meetings for this purpose. They also serve as resouces for our friends in the local media, emphasizing our Traditions of anonymity , singleness of purpose and nonaffiliation, as well as offering A.A. public service announcements to radio and television stations.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES: The purpse of the committee is to assist the districts with their policy and procedures activity. The committee is to maintain correct and updated manuscript of the procedures manual. The chair is the official parliamentarian at the gemreral assembly or area committee meeting, with the duty of ensuring that all motions are permitted by the Policy and Procedures manual. the committee will provide leadership in ensuring this Manual remains consistant with the changing needs of the area.
